Donald Sammy, taken much too soon at age 78, full of life until the end, passed away on October 21, 2020 in the presence of his family at Lakeridge Hospital. Son of the late James and Marion Sammy, loving husband of Chris, proud father of Teison (mother: Gloria Dabideen, father-in-law of Vanessa), stepfather to Scott (Leisa), Papa to Bennett and Elliott, older brother to Allen (Sherralyn), Kenny (Arlene), Carl (Kathleen), Clarence (Farida), Kanva (Cherryll), David, and younger brother to the late Howard (Kathy)- dear friend of Lalita. Dear brother-in-law to Doug (Pat), Karen (Sandy), Paddy (Kim), Kelsye (Paul). Remembered by Patsy, the Ramjohn family and Darryl, Mikey and family. Beloved nephew of the late Henry and Ermine Sabzali and cousin to the extended Sabzali family in Canada, Trinidad and the United States. Special uncle and cousin to many here and afar. Loved by his large, extended family and friends. Born and raised in San Fernando, Trinidad, Donald attended Naparima College (San Fernando) and technical college in Montreal and later immigrated to Canada, living in Toronto and working at Rogers Cable. During his life in Canada, Donald yearly returned home to Trinidad. In retirement, when he wasn’t travelling the world with Chris, he enjoyed his Pickering summers in his garden and wintered at the beach in Mayaro. Donald was a rare, genuine soul, who lifted our spirits just by his presence, with a smile that could light up a whole room. Though often a man of few words, once you were in his life, you were in his heart forever. His love for his family was vast. Donald’s quiet, unspoken faith that unfailingly supported his family will be sadly missed. We’ll all remember Donald gazing peacefully out to the sea in Mayaro or the lake in Pickering.
Chris and Tei and family wish to express their love and gratitude to family and friends.
