Obituary for Harricharan Mahadeo

Harry passed away peacefully at the Extendicare Rouge Valley Long-Term Care Home where he resided. We are grateful to the staff for their compassionate care.

Harry was born at Dundee, Mahaicony, then British Guiana to Ramnarine Sawah and Phulmatti. He had 5 siblings: the late: Aunty Sahodra (Big) and Aunty Dhanwanti (Babarine); and survived by: Aunty Dylari (Sister), Uncle Roopnarine (Baya) and Aunty Kumarie (Marie).

He studied at Bervice High School, Guyana and University of Guelph, Canada.

In Guyana he worked as an Agricultural Field Officer in Bartica, Fort Wellington and Whim. These postings from the ministry required that he move with his family to these locations. He enjoyed his work especially meeting and advising farmers. In Canada, he worked at the Kendall Company.

Much later he and his family left his beloved Guyana and moved to Scarborough, Canada.

He lived a full life of family, spirituality, friendship and education. Among his interests are reading, travel, gardening and Indian movies. Visiting family in Dundee was very dear to him. One of his fondest memories is of a vast open rice field in Guyana where the cool breezes are wafting through the golden stalks laden with grain.

He loved the lessons with Lord Krishna and Arjuna in the Bhagavad Gita. He attended the Vishu Mandir and Valmiki Ashram temples.

Harry is missed by his children Linda, Shyam, Hardy, Ron and spouses Walter, Desiree and Benigna; Grandchildren Shari-Lou, Alaina, Devon, Dimtri, Andrew and Shyann; and wife Cecilia, stepchildren Allan, Daniel, Susan and the late John and Julian.

He is missed and remembered by his relatives, friends and caregivers.

May God give us the strength and comfort in mourning our loss.
