Obituary for Melvin Oscar Knight

Our beloved Melvin Oscar Knight passed away peacefully on August 16, 2022 at The Village of Taunton
Mills in Whitby, Ontario after several years of battling Alzheimer’s disease.

Mel was born in Barbados on May 19, 1941. He moved to London, England at the age of 18 where he
spent 10 years before immigrating to Canada in 1968. He spent most of his life in Pickering.
Mel loved reading and enjoyed cooking, cycling, gardening, walking, golfing, traveling, playing the game
Joker and entertaining family and friends.

Mel was a beautiful spirit who was humorous, kind, generous, always wanted to have fun, and really
cared for people. His greatest gifts were his dedication to his family, helping others and his witty sense of
humour.

Mel was a successful Real Estate Agent and served almost 50 years in the real estate industry. He was
well-respected, much loved, and forged many long-lasting and meaningful relationships with his friends
and colleagues. He loved serving his community and did volunteer work for Durham Community Care for
many years delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors. He also worked with the Childrens Aid Society
providing foster care to children along with his wife Inez.

He will be dearly missed by his wife Inez, daughter Carmen and her husband Vernon, his stepchildren
Andrew and his wife Catherine, Karen and Christina, and his eight grandchildren Daynelle, Joshua,
KendraLee, Trent, Myles, Sidny, Candace and Mia.

He will be fondly remembered by his sister, Audrey, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, many other family
members, longtime friends, and colleagues.

Special thank you to all the staff at The Village of Taunton Mills for their excellent service, care, and
compassion. Also, a heart-filled and special thank you to Mel’s best friends Bryan and Valerie Rodrigues
for their continuous support and love throughout Mel’s journey and during this difficult time.
While we shall always miss the sounds of Mel’s laughter, his playfulness, and his unique and witty sense
of humour, we can rest knowing that he is at peace.

Mel/dad/pops/grandpa, you are unforgettable. We miss you and we love you.
