Mr. Omah Norris Maharaj died peacefully on January 2nd 2021 at the age of 80.
Omah is survived by his five children Oma Maharaj, Coomarie Maraj-Khan and Satchin Dev Chris Maharaj of Toronto, ON and Ranu Juman and Vijay Maharaj of Trinidad and Tobago. He is preceded in death by his wife Ramdoolarie (Cheena) Nee Sahatoo of Trinidad and Tobago.
He was the beloved father in-law of Riaz Juman, Rakesh Singh, Ishmael Joe Khan and Melissa Maharaj. He was the beloved grandfather of Rehanna and Abdul Rahim Juman, Rajeev and Sangeeta Singh, Safia and Sameer Khan, and Neela and Navin Maharaj. He was the beloved great grandfather of Yusuf Balkaran. He was the beloved grandfather in-law to Darren Balkaran.
He was the loving son of Seeta and Karan Maharaj (deceased). He was the beloved brother of Basdeo, Jessodra, and Rishi Maharaj (deceased) of Trinidad and Tobago; Molly Dilipchand, Shanti Mongru and Sat (Peter) Maharaj of Canada; Haresh (Harry) Maharaj of USA; and Kawala (Kay) Misra of UK. Omah was the loving brother in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Omah was born January 21st 1940 in Trinidad and Tobago in the city of San Juan, El Socorro Road. Omah was married at the age of 24 to Cheena, 19, from Marbella. They had five children and he worked for the Ministry of Works as well as a Taxi Driver until he retired. Omah was very talented in many respects, he was a singer in a band and played different instruments and was part of a Ramayan Group. He was an avid entertainer in the family, always joking, playing cards and cooking. He was a family man and will always be remembered as such.
A cremation is scheduled for January 10th 2021 at 5:00pm at the Ajax Crematorium and Visitation Centre. Pundit Rudy Tiwari of the Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir and Cultural Centre will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to view online and celebrate Omah’s life.
