Obituary for Sushila Maria D'Souza

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Sushila (Sheila) Maria D’Souza (nee Conceicao), of Pickering, Ontario on Friday August 26, at the age of 70 years.

The fourth child of the late Mariano Paulo Caridade Conceicao and Adelina Margarita Sara (Sarita) Conceicao (D’Souza), Sushila was born September 6th, 1951, in Nairobi, Kenya. After finishing her schooling, she pursued her love of travel and became a travel agent. She fell in love and then married Cyriaco (Cyril) D’Souza on December 27th, 1971. Together, they welcomed the birth of their daughter Audrey in February 1973 before emigrating to Canada in 1974. Their family was completed by the birth of their second daughter Lisa in May 1978.

Sushila’s life was suddenly changed after being diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2009. She was a brave warrior and a strong role model throughout her lengthy illness that followed. She lived the rest of her life with a positive attitude, demonstrating resilience and inner strength that was fed by the love, care and unwavering support of her husband Cyriaco.

Anyone who knew Sushila knew that she was the most loving wife, mother, sibling, and daughter a family could ask for. She touched the lives of those she met in a very special way. She had a warm, sweet and humble personality and genuinely cared about every single person in her immense community of family, friends, professionals and acquaintances across the globe. Everyone who knew her felt her big heart and giving nature. She was the first person to do whatever she could to help any situation at any time without thinking of herself. In her quiet way, she left a deep lasting impression in those she left behind.

Sushila is survived by Cyriaco, her husband of 50 years, her daughters Audrey (Robert) Zavaglia and Lisa (Arun) Maharajh, her grandchildren Julia, Maya, Malia and Keanu, her sisters Delilah (Ed) Clinton, Lolita Henriques, Shirley (Keith) Hill, her sister-in-law Eliza Conceicao (brother Manuel Conceicao predeceased), and many loving nephews, nieces, their spouses and children.

According to her wishes, Sushila has been cremated. Her funeral service will be held on Saturday September 3rd, at 11:00am at Saint Isaac Jogues Church at 1148 Finch Ave, Pickering, Ontario with a reception to follow.
