Obituary for Theodore Patrick Ryan

Theodore Patrick Ryan, went to his eternal rest on Saturday April 10, 2021. He was born July 7, 1946, in Trinidad & Tobago, to the late Rev. Dr. William Patrick Ryan, and the late Miriam Rose Ryan, neé Allen.

Ted, or Teddy as he is affectionately known to family and friends, began his education at St. Crispin’s Anglican School in Woodbrook, Trinidad. He went on to earn a scholarship to Queen’s Royal College, an all-boys high school in Port of Spain. The University of Leeds, UK, was where he earned his professional degree in accounting in the late 1970’s. Ted was an entrepreneur at heart, starting many small businesses in Trinidad before relocating to Canada in 1988.

Once settled in Canada Ted began a private book-keeping and accounting practice, serving individuals and small businesses in the Pickering area and beyond. This practice blossomed into AccTax Services, located in the Pickering Mall. A community activist and philanthropist, Ted served on numerous local committees and boards, contributing to the mental and physical wellbeing of children and youth by donating to educational scholarships and sponsoring sports teams. Many family members attest to this privately generous, humanitarian spirit.

Ted is survived by his sons, Richard and Robin (Rhesa), of Trinidad & Tobago, and Randall, of Canada. Also left to mourn his loss are granddaughters Michaela, Keona, and Elia; and siblings, Gwendolyn (Irvin,) Rhoda, Donald (Sharon,) and Catherine (Harran.) Also mourning his passing are his nephews and nieces: Genevieve, Nigel, Karenmay, Jesse, Gillian, Laurel, Barron, and Joanna. Great nephews and nieces, cousins of the Norris and Charles Ryan families, devoted long-time friends, business partners, international relatives, and beloved employees are also left to mourn the passing of this private man whose influence has been felt far and wide.

A memorial service will be held at the Ajax Funeral Home on Monday April 19th at 12:00 pm EST.
