Obituary for Velma Marion Gwendolen Rose (Butler, Beck)

“You’re never too old to be young”
- Happy (Snow White and the Seven Dwarves)

Velma Marion Gwendolen Rose (Butler, Beck), age 84, died on March 9th, 2022, in Oshawa, Ontario. Velma is survived by her children Patricia, Tom (Sheila) and Chris, her brother Karl, as well as her grandchildren Alycia, Glenn, Kristen, and Megan, and her great-grandchildren Matteo and Melina.

Velma was born on March 15, 1937 in Sydney, Nova Scotia, to parents Albert and Reta Butler. She graduated from Quo Vadis School of Nursing in Toronto. Velma spent most of her nursing career at The Hospital for Sick Children, but also worked at Queen Street Mental Health Centre, East General and the Campbellford Hospital.

Retired at the age of 50, Velma enjoyed over 30 winters in Florida at Westview Ridge Resorts in Haines City. Velma loved Disney and for many years, enjoyed being an Annual Pass holder at Walt Disney World in Florida.

Velma was an avid card player and often won at Euchre and Pinochle. She loved to garden and in her later years had planters full of cherry tomatoes that she shared with the children in her life. Velma will be dearly missed by her family and friends; she brought love and magic into the lives of many.
